Performance Measures in the Public Sector

"Performance measurement is a systematic attempt to learn how responsive a state government's services are to the needs of the state and the state's ability to pay". .... — Paul D. Epstein

Performance measurement is the public sector's way of determining whether it is providing a quality product at a reasonable cost.

Performance measurement provides a mechanism for clearly identifying the intended goals and objectives of government programs, and then systematically and regularly measuring progress towards those goals.

The references on this site are intended to help government agencies in Utah state government and elsewhere is develop meaningful and useful performance measures.

State agencies are encouraged to work with the State Planning Coordinator in the development and implementation of performance measures.g
