| Jordan River Parkway:
Salt Lake County
Trail Completion Prioritization
PROBLEM
The Jordan River Parkway trail has a number of incomplete sections or sections needing work. Nine sections have been identified. The purpose of this project is to create a prioritized recommendation for completing the trail.
This effort is in response to a request from the Salt Lake Count Mayor’s Office and a resolution passed by the Jordan River Natural Areas Forum on July 7th. The resolution stipulates that:
1. That JRNAF will initiate an informed public process to develop a strategy to fill in the gaps in the Jordan River Parkway Trail.
2. JRNAF will serve as a facilitator to bring together the stakeholders.

APPROACH
The “Trail Group” is an ad hoc subcommittee of JRNAF.
The Trail Group will:
1. Engage knowledgeable local individuals to draft preliminary information describing each of the uncompleted trail sections, including any knowledge of the landowners and the interest regarding completion of the trail section.
2. Compile additional data to complete an inventory of the needs for each section.
3. Conduct site visits.
4. Make compiled inventory available on the Internet.
5. Conduct “open houses” in 3 locations to discuss the information with the public and get input.
6. Draft findings and recommendations and make them available on the Internet (scheduled for December 1, 2004).
7. Finalize findings and recommendations and present to the Salt Lake Council of Governments and the public (scheduled for January 6, 2005). |
